1: Amrutheshwara Temple

While on a trip to Chikmagalur, travellers can explore Amrutheshwara Temple that is situated 67 kms to the north of the town. This pilgrimage site was constructed in the year 1196 under the rule of Veera Ballala II. The temple has been named after its architect, Amrutheshwara Dandanayaka. Amrutheshwara Temple includes a vimana of ekakuta design, a wide open mantapa and a closed mantapa that connects with an open hall. The closed mantapa has 9 bays with a porch while the open mantapa has 29 bays. Upon visiting the site, devotees would notice that the temple is embellished with sculptures of Kirthimukhas. The main attraction of Amrutheshwara Tempe is the series of glistening lathe turned pillars that are supporting the mantapa ceiling. On closer observation, people will see that inner ceiling of the mantapa is adorned with carvings of floral patterns. The open mantapa consists of 140 panels that display Hindu mythological characters. The north side of the wall showcases important events of Mahabharata and the life of Lord Krishna.

Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudanswamy's Darga located on the Bababudan hills in Chikmagalur. Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary situated in the midst of Western Ghats in Chikmagalur and Shimoga districts of Karnataka. This sanctuary is covering an area of 492 sq kms. Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 38 kms northwest of Chikmagalur town. The sanctuary is surrounded by Mullaianagiri, Hebbegiri and Gangegiri and Bababudangiri hills and Odirayanahalla of the Bhadra River flowing through it. Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary gets its name from the river Bhadra. Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is also popularly known as Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary, after the village on its periphery. The reserve consists of two main areas, Muthodi and Lakkavalli. The forest type is southern tropical dry deciduous dry teak, Northern tropical dry deciduous mixed forest, Dry deciduous scrub forest, Boswellia forest, Dry bamboo brakes, Anogeissus pendula forest. A diverse range of wildlife is found in the sanctuary. The southern part of the Bhadra Wildlife sanctuary is rich in birds, butterflies and reptiles.  
 
7: Bhadra Reservoir

Bhadra Dam, which has created the Bhadra Reservoir, is located at a distance of 76 kms from Chikmagalur town on Bhadra River near Lakkavalli village in Tarikere taluk of Chikmagalur district. The Bhadra Reservoir project was the irrigation scheme to be undertaken by the National Water Management Project, with the purpose to increase agricultural prosperity, especially for the rice production. The Bhadra dam was constructed between 1947 and 1965. The dam features a height of 59.13 mts above sea level.

Gangamoola is also referred as Varaha Parvata, and is known for being the source of three main rivers of Karnataka, Tunga, Bhadra and Netravathi. Gangamoola has the honour of being a part of UNESCO designated World Heritage Site. Gangamoola is a section of the Gangamoola Aroli Gangrikal range of Western Ghats in Chikmagalur. It is situated at an altitude of 1458 mts above sea level; the hill is surrounded by the Kudremukh National Park. The hill is densely forested. The surrounding area of the hill is rich in magnetite quartzite deposits which yield iron ore. Gangamoola is the origin of three rivers, Tunga, Bhadra and Netravathi.

A place of charming natural scenery, the ancient temple of Goddess Annapoomeshwari here has been restored and renamed as the Adi Shaktyatmaka Shri Annapoomeshwari. Kalasa is located 92 kms southwest of Chikmagalur and 7 kms from Horanadu and is surrounded by lofty hills of the Western Ghats. This ancient Agrahara settlement on the banks of the river Bhadra, and is looked upon as one of the pancha kshetras. On a small hillock here is the Sri Kalaseshwara temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, with a Kshetrapala shrine of soap stone nearby. The Madhawacharya Bande, a large rock at one of the theerthas here, is supposed to have been placed by Sri Madhawacharya.

Shri Kshetra Simhanagadde is well known for Atishaya of Jwalamalini Devi the Yakshini of Bhagwan Chandraprabhu. Roughly 600 years ago the headquarters of Gersoppa Soduv Empire existed at a distance of 27 kms from Honnavar in Uttara Kannada District. The Queen Channa Vera Devi the wife of Jain King has constructed more than 700 temples. Following the attack of Portuguese the Queen was defeated and temples were ruined. The ruined Jain temples still exist.

In the Vidya Shankara Temple here, there are 12 Zodiac pillars, which are so constructed that the rays of the sun fall on the pillar corresponding to the month.
