3: The Satras
The Satras
The Vaishnava Satras were founded by Sankardeva, the father of Assamese culture. The historic and auspicious 'Manikanchan Sanjog' was the first Satra in Majuli. Subsequently 65 satras grew which propagated the ethnic and sociocultural ideals. At present there are only 22 Satras in Majuli and rest have been shifted to other safer places due to flood and erosion. These Satras are the treasure house of 'Borgeet', Matiakhara, Jumora dance, Chali dance, Noyua dance, Nande Vringee, Sutradhar, Ozapali, Apsara dance, Satria Krishna dance, Dasavater dance etc. which were contributed by Shri Sankardeva.  
 
4: Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary
Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary
Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife sanctuary, more popularly known as Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary named after Hoolock Gibbon covers an area of 20.98 square kilometres at Jorhat district of Assam. The Hoollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary was earlier known as Hoollongapar Forest during British period in 1881. Located 20 kms from Jorhat town, it derives its name from the tall hollong, the State Tree, and the hoolock gibbon, India’s only ape. It is a semi evergreen forest with wet evergreen patches amidst tea gardens and human settlements. Hollongapar houses the largest and most vulnerable number of hoolock gibbons besides the Bengal slow loris, the only nocturnal primate in Northeast India.

Mou Chapori is a nice place at Neematighat, Jorhat. It’s a small river island on mighty Brahmaputra River and an ideal place for family outings. Cottages are pretty decent and available at affordable price.

By Bus - Assam State Road Transport Corporation (ASRTC) and some private travel service regular ply to access all major foremost places of Jorhat.

Local Transport - Hired cabs are the easiest and most convenient way to get around. Daily Ferry Boats to the world's largest river island of Majuli can also be boarded from Jorhat and most of those travel arrangements can be made straight from the city hotels.
