About Kasauli

Kasauli is a popular hill station located in the district of Solan in the state of Himachal Pradesh at an elevation of around 1800 meters above sea level & the place is also mentioned in one of the great Indian epics, the Ramayana. According to mythology, the Hindu monkey god, Hanuman, stepped over this place while returning with the Sanjeevani Hill. The destination received its name from a mountain stream flowing between Jabali and Kasauli known as Kausalya. The beautiful view of the valley and the chilling weather is the major attraction of the place. Monkey Point Kasauli
Monkey Point, situated at a distance of about 4 km from the town bus stand, is the highest peak of Kasauli. This place offers a perfect view of the Sutlej River, & the snow-capped Choor Chandni Peak, the tallest peak in the Lower Himalayan region. A temple on the peak, dedicated to the Hindu god, Hanuman, attracts visitors. The place is named so after the presiding deity of this temple.

It's believed that childless couples who offer their prayers in this temple have their wishes of bearing children granted. The temple consists of several statues of Shiva, along with a picture of a blessed child, & is the highlight of the temple.

CRI is engaged in research and development activities and has created vaccines for treating various diseases and ailments, including cholera, typhoid, smallpox, and snakebite.

Gurudwara Shri Guru Nanak Ji, an old religious center of Sikhs, is located in the market of Gharkhal on the road towards Kasauli. A program is organized on the premises of this gurudwara every Sunday, after which Karah Parshad, sacred food in the form of a sweet dish prepared from flour, is distributed among devotees, followed by langar or community kitchen.

Kasauli Brewery, established by Edward Dyer during the 1820s, is the world’s highest distillery, resting at an altitude of 6000 ft above sea level. He chose this location because of the availability of spring waters and favorable climatic conditions & started distilling Malt Whiskey and India Pale Ale here. The brewery was later relocated because of the scarcity of spring water.

The Lawrence School, established by Sir Henry M. Lawrence on 17th April 1847, is counted as one of the oldest schools in the country. The Lawrence School, situated amidst nature, the entire region is surrounded by forests of cedar, oak, and pine, at a distance of around 6 km from Kasauli in Sanawar & the school is known to have produced many celebrities and famous individuals in India.

Chail Wildlife Sanctuary
Chail Wildlife Sanctuary originally served as a hunting reserve for the kings of Patiala, which was later declared a wildlife sanctuary by the government in 1976. Situated on the top of a mountain and spread over 110 sq km, this sanctuary has deep forests covered with pines, shrubs, oak trees, and grasslands. This sanctuary is home to numerous animal species like goral, rhesus macaque, the Indian muntjac, leopard, and crested porcupine. Further, panther, wild boar, sambar, the European red deer, the Himalayan black bear, common langur, and black-napped hare are also found here.

Cricket Ground at Chail, located at an altitude of 2444 mts above sea level, is counted among the highest cricketing venues in the world. Also, used as a polo ground, this well maintained cricket ground was constructed in 1893 by Bhupinder Singh, the King of Patiala. It is surrounded by pine and deodar forest and is under the administration of the Chail Military School uses it as a playground.

By Air - Chandigarh Airport situated 59 kms from Kasauli is the nearest air base to the destination. This airport is well connected with other Indian cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Srinagar. Travellers can hire taxis from outside the airport to reach Kasauli.

 

By Rail - The closest railhead to Kasauli is the Kalka Railway Station, which is located at a distance of around 40 kms. The railway station at Kalka is well connected with major places in the country like New Delhi, Kolkata, Amritsar, and Mumbai.

 

By Road - Regular state owned buses ply from different cities of Himachal Pradesh for Kasauli. Travellers can avail deluxe and super deluxe buses from Chandigarh and Delhi for Kasauli.

 

Local Transport - Taxis are easily available to go around the town. One can easily avail HRTC buses in Solan. There are no established modes of local transport available in Arki so it's best to take a cab. One might find some rickshaws. Travelling in Nalagarh is quite easy with options like buses and taxis.
