About Kullu Manali

Kullu, also known as the Valley of Gods, is a beautiful district in Himachal Pradesh. The valley earned its nickname because of the belief that it had once been home to many Hindu Gods, Goddesses, and divine souls. Situated at an elevation of 1230 meters on the banks of the Beas River, it is known for its magnificent natural surroundings.

Originally known, as Kul-anti-peetha, meaning the farthest point of the inhabitable world, Kullu also finds mention in great Indian epics like the Mahabharata & the Ramayana as well as the Vishnu Purana. Founded by a native of Tripura known as Behangamani Pal, the history of this beautiful hill station dates back to the 1st century. 

This mesmerizing summer destination is covered with steep hills, deodar forests, rivers, and apple orchards & is famous among tourists from all across the world for its natural beauty. Apart from this, Kullu is also known for its ancient forts, religious sites, wildlife sanctuaries, and dams. Hadimba Temple is one of the most prominent religious sites in Manali. A cave temple, it is dedicated to Hadimba Devi, the sister of Hadimb who is a demon from the Hindu mythology Located at the foothills of the Himalayas it is bounded by forests of cedar. This temple was constructed over a large rock emerging from the ground and dates back to 1553. This rock inside the temple is worshipped by devotees as a representation of the deity. According to a local legend the king responsible for the erection of the temple ordered the amputation of the right hands of the artisans who worked on its construction. He did this in order to avoid the construction of a similar masterpiece. A ceremony called the ‘Ghor Pooja’, which involves seeking blessings from the goddess by a ceremonial horse, is organised at this temple. This religious site is thronged by devotees on the 14th of May, which is believed to be the birthday of the presiding deity.

According to Hindu mythology, the hot sulfur springs in Vashisht were formed by the younger brother of the deity Rama, Lakshman. Tourists can visit the Hot Bath Complex, a 10-minute walk from the city center. A temple, which enshrines a black stone figure of a ‘Rishi’ or sage wearing a loin cloth, is located close to the springs.
