Panna is an Indian city located in the state of Madhya Pradesh and is known famous for its diamond mines. Panna diamonds, though not world class in quality and clarity, are famously auctioned off by the District Magistrate at the end of each month. The city also holds a lot of religious importance for the Hindus. It was here that Mahamati Prannath preached the message of self awakening and also unfurled the flag of Jagani. It is believed that the Mahamati decided to take his Samadhi in Panna after having spent eleven years here along with his disciples. The only Diamond City in India is Panna. Panna is beautifully calm and serene roll on meadows dotted with evergreen trees, hills, forests Panna is famous for its temples which strikes a very fine blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture. Panna is the most sacrosanct pilgrimage for the followers of the Pranami sect world over. With a sanctuary for rare wild life and avifauna & a diamond mine, Panna has transformed a royal past into a vibrant and lively present. Panna has been given the award of Excellence the best maintained Tourist Friendly Nation Park of the Country by the Ministry of Tourism. Panna tourism draws largely from the presence of Panna National Park though the Pandava Caves and fall are equally popular. 1: Panna National Park

Panna National Park lies close to the city of Panna but is part of the Chhatarpur district of MP it is the fifth tiger reserve park in the state and twenty second in the country. The park has even been awarded the best maintained national park in the country by the Ministry of Tourism. Apart from the tigers, the National Park is the natural home of many other animals as well. The park is very interestingly located; the end of the park forms the end of the tropical and sub tropical forest belt and the start of the moist deciduous forests that belong to the Indo Gangetic Plain. This point also sees the start of the forest of the Teak trees. One can easily spot chitals, sloth bears, sambhars and chinkaras in the national park other than the majestic tigers. There are also a variety of birds living in the park including the King Vulture, the Honey Buzzard, the Bar headed Goose and the Blossom headed Parakeet.

Pandav Caves and fall are located at a distance of about 12 kms from the main city of Panna and lie very close to the National Park. It is easy to reach the falls since they are very near to the national highway. The falls originate from the local springs and are touted as the best feature of Panna tourism. The falls flow throughout the year regardless of the season, and it is indeed a pleasure to visit the falls during monsoons. The falls are around 100 ft in length and fall a huge pool at the end of their fall. Located at the base of the falls are the famous Pandav Caves where legend has it that the Pandava brothers took refuge when they were exiled. The area surrounding the caves and the falls is a treat for the sore eyes and has become a famous picnic spot among locals and tourists alike.

Gatha Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in India, are the most beautiful waterfalls of this region. The 300 ft drop from the hill creates a wonderful sight and attracts onlookers crossing the highway. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful view and calm environment filled with the music of falling water which becomes livelier during the monsoons. Located on the Ken River, the falls can be reached from National Highway 75, which passes through the destination.  
 
4: Ken Gharial Sanctuary

Ken Gharial Sanctuary is an important sanctuary of India that was established keeping in mind the need to protect the Indian gharials that are fast becoming an endangered species. It lies close to the city of Panna. The sanctuary is beautifully located and is surrounded by forests on all sides and running through the sanctuary is the 45 kms long River Ken. In fact, the sanctuary witnesses the convergence of the two rivers Khuddar and Ken. The sanctuary, which was opened to public in 1985, is the natural home of many reptiles apart from the gharials that grow up to an impressive length of 6mts. On the sandy banks of the rivers one can spot chinkara, chitals, wild boars, peacocks and blue bulls. Tourists with children should definitely visit the sanctuary as it will be a learning and exciting experience for the kids. The sanctuary is left open for the tourists on all days from sunrise until sunset.  
 
5: Mahamati Prannathji Temple

The place where the peripatetic sage Mahamati Prannath and his disciples, who on reaching Panna realized the message of the awakening of one's soul constructed in 1692, this structure is inspired from both Hindu and Muslim architectural styles and beliefs. The major attraction of this shrine is a circular building with nine marble domes called Guru Gummatji. Eight of these domes represent the eight directions and central dome has a divine golden Kalash.  
 
6: Padmavati Devi Or Badi Devi Temple
Padmavati Devi or Badi Devi Temple
This is another temple that holds a lot of historical significance given to the fact that it is believed that Goddess Padmavati is the protector of the prosperity and happiness of Panna. This is also the place that Mahapati Chhatrasal accepts as his Raj Lakshmi.  
 
7: Baldev Ji
Baldev Ji
The Baldeoji Temple has been inspired by Roman architecture and has a gothic feel to it. The temple consists of a large hall called maha mandapa with massive pillars and is built on a raised platform so that one may obtain darshan even from outside the main gate. The attractive image of Shri Baldeoji is constructed in black shaligrami stone. Baldeoji temple is one of the finest structures in the area and represents the heights that Panna architecture has reached.  
 
8: Jugal Kishoreji Temple
Jugal Kishoreji Temple
This is the most important Hindu Temple in the town of Panna. The structure of the temple is inspired by the typical Bundela temple style. It is believed that a pilgrimage of the four Dhams is considered incomplete, if it does not conclude with a visit of the Jugal Kishoreji Temple.

By Air - Panna Airport is currently non functional, the nearest working airport is Khajuraho Airport which is 29 kms away.

 

By Road - Tourist and state owned buses connects Panna to all major cities in the state. State owned public bus services are available from Jhansi to Panna at regular intervals. Khajuraho also provides the same facilities.

 

By Train - Panna does not have a station of its own. Nearest railway station is Satna 75 kms away, but not all trains take a halt here. The nearest major railway station is Jhansi which is 176 kms away from Panna and all the trains halt at this station. 

 

Local Transport - Panna is just like another city with Taxis, local buses and auto rickshaws as the best way of commuting within the city.
