Sindhudurg, a name derived from Sindhu, meaning the sea, and Durg, signifying a fort, was strategically erected by the valiant Maratha ruler, Chattrapati Shivaji. Shree Bharadi Devi Temple is located in Aangnewadi that lies in the town of Malvan. The idol of Goddess Bharadi Devi is enshrined in the inner sanctum. The prime offering at the temple is Otti, which is a combined offering of a coconut and a blouse piece. An annual fair is organised at the shrine during which masks, saris and ornaments are offered to the goddess.

This place is formed to keep the memory of the sacrament of Baba Bhalchandra. He himself resided inside the villa for 55 years. To keep his remembrances alive, a memorial has been constructed. You can also stay there in their Bhakt Nivas at an affordable price. Devotees are free to worship the idol here. You have to contribute only fifty one rupees to do pooja abhishekh of Samarth barely one time in a year. The prasad will be mailed to your address afterwards. In case you want to do all these customs on a festive day, then you have to donate thousand and one rupees. There are several places where Baba used to meditate. In the main market of Kankavli, there is a lively monument of Babaji.

Bharatgad Fort was constructed by Sawantwadikar Fond Sawat in 1680. This fort is supported by huge walls that are presently in a ruined condition. The fort has a 200 ft deep water tank that has a carved door at its bottom. Archaeologists state that the cave, starting near the carved door, leads to the Sindhudurg Fort. This cave was used as a hidden passage for women to escape, in case of an attack by enemies.

Bhogwe Beach is a secluded beach on the western shores of the Sindhudurg district. This beach offers beautiful views of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea. This long stretch of 1.5 kms of clean sands on Government rest house on left and rocky jutting on the right is a pleasure walk. Like all konkan beaches this is a clean unpolluted beach. Chivla beach has fisher folk community living by its side. Like all sea shores one can enjoy the sunset from Chivla beach. During December to February when skies are clear one can see many shades of colours at the time of sunset. Moonlight makes this beach more splendid late in the night and nocturnal walk on this beach is a memory to cherish.

Devbagh, often known as God’s Garden, is a fishing village located on a thin strip of land near the confluence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea. The traditional fishing boats of the villagers are provided to tourists for venturing out into the sea. This village is situated adjacent to the Tarkarli Beach and ends at Devbagh Sangam. Tourists head towards this village especially for spotting dolphins. The beach can be easily accessed via the Malvan Tarkarli Road.

Vengurla’s Fruit Research Centre is a study centre as well as tourist spot, which is known for conducting experiments on mango and cashew. Sindhu, one of the varieties of mango, was also developed at this research centre. The research centre also houses a nursery that sells various types of saplings. Tourists can also explore the cashew factory that shows the entire process of separation, roasting and packaging of cashews. This research centre is located on the main road towards the Camp area.

Situated in Achara in Malvan Town, Rameshwar Temple is considered to have been gifted by the King of Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Shambhu Raje to Shri Dev Rameshwar. The idol is devoted to Lord Shiva, the main deity of the village. It is well known as the Inamdar Shri Dev Rameshwar which has a huge quad which resembles the famous temples of Goa.

Lying north of the Sindhudurg Fort, this fort comes under the group of forts that were raised in and around Malvan, between the 16th and 18th centuries. It is believed that the fort was built in 1668 to provide shelter to Shivaji's ships during storms and the rainy season. It is located near the mouth of the Talashil River, from where people can enjoy very good views of the sunrise and sunset.

Standing at an altitude of 3000 ft fort is advantageously located on the topmost peak of Gaganbavada.
