1: Tawang Monestary
Tawang Monestary
The Tawang monastery is the largest monastery in India & the second largest in Asia & founded by Merak Lama Lodre in 1680-1681 AD. The Tawang monastery is 180 km from Bomdila in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh & is also known as Golden Namgyal Lhatse, located on a hill 10,000 feet above sea level. The main attractions of the monastery are the 28 feet high golden statue of Lord Buddha and an imposing three-storied assembly hall. It also has a library with an impressive collection of ancient books and manuscripts believed to be from the 17th Century.

Tawang War Memorial was built in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the safeguard of India during the 1962 Indo-China war. The memorial accounts for the events of the war and lists soldiers who sacrificed their lives.
 
3: Urgelling Monastery
Urgelling Monastery
Urgelling Monastery is about 3 km from Tawang Township and is believed to be in existence since the 14th century and is one of the oldest monasteries in Tawang. The Urgelling Monastery was built by Urgen Sangpo & is also considered one of the first three monasteries built by him. The Urgelling Monastery is believed to be the birthplace of his Holiness, the 6th Dalai Lama, & Tsangyang Gyamtso. 
 
4: Brahma-dung-chung Ani Gompa
Brahma-Dung-Chung Ani Gompa
Brahma-Dung-Chung Ani Gompa is at a distance of around 8 km from Tawang town. It is one of the oldest Ani Gompa in the north of Tawang Township. This Ani Gompa was constructed in 1595 AD by Lama Karchen Yeshi Gelek of Tsang province of Tibet. At present, the place is also home to 45 nuns, who are also known as Anis.   
 
5: Panga Teng Tso Lake

This lake is only 18 km from Tawang Township. The lake has always been a center of attraction for tourists visiting Tawang. It is also an ideal spot for a picnic. In winter lake remains frozen & the surrounding area provides the perfect surface for skiing. Panga Teng Tso Lake is one of the most famous lakes in Arunachal Pradesh.
 
6: Shonga-tser Lake

In the aftermath of the 1950 earthquake, the lake formed 42 km from Tawang. The scenery & the lake itself is so alluring that it has been an ideal location for many Indian filmmakers to shoot their movies. Before 1950, the entire lake area was reserved grassland. The scenery and the land of this lake entice photographers from all across the world. 
 
7: Taktsang Gompa
Taktsang Gompa
Taktsang Gompa, located at a distance of 45 kilometers from Tawang Township, is one of the most famous tourist attractions. In the 8th century AD, Guru Padmasambhava visited the site of this gompa and blessed this site. The monastery sits atop a small hill surrounded by dense coniferous forest, where devotees can conduct a roundabout. It's also believed that it is the same place where Guru Padmasambhava meditated.    
 
8: Gorsam Chorten
Gorsam Chorten
Gorsam Chorten, located at a distance of 90 kilometers from Tawang town, is the largest stupa in the entire area & was founded by a Monpa monk, Lama Pradhan. In addition, on the lowermost terrace of the plinth, four miniature stupas are standing erect on the four corners. Each side of this Chorten is about 170 feet long, with a niche running along its entire base. Moreover, there are around 120 Manis set in wooden frames. Encircling the stupa is a well-paved path on which pilgrims go roundabout for praying, & which is also known as Kora. 
 
9: Nuranang Waterfalls

Tawang has to offer every form of nature at its best. Nuranang Waterfalls is one such wonderful attraction & gives a mesmerizing experience. A largely unknown & virgin place, deep in the forest of Tawang. One of the most spectacular waterfalls in the country, Nuranang fall, is a beautiful white sheet of water that descends from a height of about 100 meters. Part of the Nuranang River originates at Sela Pass. A day tour to the Nuranang Falls while on the journey from Tawang till Bomdila allows having some relaxed and enjoyable time by the waterfalls. A thick green mist blankets the hilltops and caresses the falls, providing total tranquility and joy to the visitor.
 
10: Jaswant Garh
Jaswant Garh
Many natural wonders were so far mentioned as tourist destinations, as their compelling beauty is irresistible. Now, a ‘wonder man’ has to be visited, as his valor is compelling. The ‘wonder man’ does not exist now, but his memories do. Jaswant Singh Rawat of the Indian army fought alone a battle against the invading Chinese troop during the Indo-China war in 1962. He stood in his position for three days at an altitude of 10000 ft without giving up until his last breath. Located 21 km from Sela Pass in the direction of Tawang is the post held by him & is named Jaswant Garh in honor of his memory.  
 
11: Sela Pass
Sela Pass
If there is any heaven on earth, it is Sela Mountain Pass providing visitors to fill with heavenly bliss in abundance. Visitors can enjoy the magnificent sight of white snow covering the Sela range in winter. This place is snowed most of the year and offers excellent and heavenly views all year round. While Sela Pass doesn't get heavy snow in winters, it is usually open throughout the year unless landslides or snow require the pass to shut down.   
 
12: Chag-zam Bridge
Chag-Zam Bridge
This iron chain suspension bridge or Chag-Zam is 600 years old. Spanning more than 100 meters across the Tawang River, it represents a rare and remarkable architectural achievement. Of several dozen such Chag-Zam bridges said to have been constructed in the Eastern Himalayan region, only four remain intact today, with this being the only one of its kind in India.

By Air - The Tezpur Airport is the best and the closest option for those who are arriving by air. The place is connected by flights from cities such as Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati.

 

By Rail - Rangapara in Assam is the nearest rail head from Tawang and Tezpur is the major railway station.

 

By Road - Tawang is well connected to nearby cities like Guwahati and Tezpur and buses are available for Tawang from Tezpur and other parts of the region.

 

Local Transport - The sightseeing within the town can be completed in half a day, and it is best to book a taxi for that. The other section of sightseeing involves moving outside the town. A vehicle like Sumo would be more suited for the purpose. One day is enough to cover these sights, although the roads are not in excellent shape.
